It has a proper cobbled market place, a run of genuinely good independent shops, a strong antiques trade and a textile heritage you can still read in its mills and streets. For buyers priced out of the honeypot villages, it offers town life, character and countryside — often for a bit less money.
It sits just over the Staffordshire border from our home patch, and we sell and let across this stretch of the Moorlands. Here's the honest guide.
Leek is a working town with real character, not a museum piece. Market days (Wednesday and Saturday) still pull people in, the independent shops, cafés and pubs are genuinely used by locals, and there's a strong arts and community streak. The silk and textile past has left a legacy of fine buildings, and there are William Morris and Arts & Crafts connections dotted around.
Step out of town and you're straight into some of the best of the Peak — the dramatic gritstone ridge of the Roaches, Tittesworth Reservoir, and miles of walking and cycling. It's a favourite with families and outdoors types who want space and character without a big-city price tag.
Leek's housing runs from stone and brick terraces and characterful period townhouses near the centre to larger family homes and modern developments on the edges, plus cottages and rural property out towards the moors. It's one of the more affordable spots in our wider area, which keeps demand healthy. Headline averages only tell you so much — for a real read on what your home is worth here, it's best to talk to us.
Leek is well served for schools across the primary and secondary age range, with several primaries in and around the town and secondary provision locally. We won't quote ratings that go out of date — if schools are driving your move, give us a call and we'll talk you through the catchments honestly.
